What this is

From Helping to Growing is a complete, four-session parent training program for BCBAs — an ACT-informed way of helping caregivers look honestly at the support they give, notice where their child may be ready to participate more, and choose next steps that fit their own values.

What's included

  • BCBA Facilitator Guide (12 pages) — the clinician's copy. It explains the clinical purpose of each session, gives you language to try, sets out clinical guardrails and scope boundaries, maps every activity to the matching page in the family's workbook, and includes documentation and data guidance plus what to do when a plan stalls.
  • Parent Workbook (17 pages) — the printable family copy, with no facilitator instructions. Caregivers work through future hopes and values, how help is given right now, a ladder of reachable next steps, possible ceilings, what comes up for them in hard moments, one small experiment with a practice log, a review, and a 90-day direction — plus an optional "Someday, when it is not me" future-planning page.

The four-session arc

  1. 1The life you hope for — hopes across time horizons, finding the value beneath a specific goal, then a week of observation with no changes required.
  2. 2How we help — sorting each task component into cannot yet, with help, with opportunity, or independently; building a reachable ladder and naming ceilings.
  3. 3Make room for one try — the relief cycle behind quick helping, notice/allow/choose, and one safe experiment with cue, wait time, smallest prompt, and clear stop criteria.
  4. 4What did we learn? — reviewing the practice log to decide whether to repeat, adapt, add support, fade, or pause, then setting a 30/60/90-day direction.
